Mini Papercraft Dungeon RPG Game

Mini Dungeon RPG Bastelbogen
About 13 years ago, Jim Bowen created a free miniature dungeon crawler type board game that uses paper models and a modular dungeon system. The game is called "Mini Dungeon Adventures."  I don't know how far Jim pursued his development of the game, but there is still an early edition of the game PDF located here: Internet Archive. The PDF includes both the rules, as well as printable dungeon tiles, props, characters, and item tokens. Here is a taste of what Jim has to say about the game play:

"The 1 player game has the player using two hero characters and the dungeon has pre-determined behavioral patterns for the enemies. 2-5 players have one player take on the role of the dungeon master. You generate your character from one of four races and four classes, then give them some starting equipment and send them off into the dungeon. Each time a room is explored, you roll on the monster generator chart, which shows how many and what kind of monsters there are as well as if there are any treasure chests or not."

It should be noted that dice are required to play the game. Happy gaming!

RPG Crystal Papercraft

RPG Crystal Recortable
I'm always on the lookout for easy tabletop gaming props. This crystal is a good one! Officially this model is an "Elven Crystal," but it will work in different types of gaming scenarios, not just Fantasy. This model is part of the Lord Zsezse Works collection of Elven Papercraft which was part of a 2015 Kickstarter project. The template for the crystal is currently available as a "pay what you want" item on Drivethru RPG. The model includes both the crystal and the base. The PDF template is customizable with three different base materials and five different crystal colors. The finished model is 2.8" (7 cm) tall.

Old Church Papercraft

Old Kirk Bastelbogen
Once upon a time, there was an Italian papercraft company named Odissey that had some really nice free samples. The company is long gone, but if you look carefully, you can still find some of the free samples hiding in the far corners of the Internet. One such sample is the Old Church paper model pictured. The printable PDF for the church may be downloaded from the archive located HERE. Instructions are included in the download, but be aware the text is in Italian. Be that as it may, the images in the instructions are good enough that the text should not be needed. This model is a good size for miniature gaming and RPG games.

Easy RPG Hovel Papercraft

RPG Asset Bastelbogen
This easy papercraft hovel is intended for use in role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. I like its cartoony, hand-drawn simplicity. I also like that if you lift the building up, underneath is a 2D floor plan showing the furniture layout inside. The template for this free RPG papercraft sample may be downloaded from the Patreon page of 2-Minute Tabletop. With only six pieces in the template, the model is a quick build.

Medieval RPG Hand Cart Papercraft

Dark Ages Hand Cart Bastelbogen
This medieval hand cart paper model was created by Paperschnitzel as a free promotional download for the RPG game, Ravenfeast. To be exact, Ravenfeast is a historical tabletop wargame set in the Age of Vikings. The PDF template for the cart, as well as instructions, may be downloaded from the Ravenfeast website. The template in the download is a simplified version of what is shown in the photo. However, an advanced papercrafter will be able to produce the results in the photo by printing the template multiple times, gluing the pieces to heavy cardstock, then layering pieces during construction for a more 3D effect. If I am not mistaken, this cart is 28mm scale.

Papercraft Treasure Chests With Gold Bricks

Treasure Chest Bastelbogen
I love papercraft treasure chests! Especially when they come with golden treasure inside! These particular chests are just about the right size to be used as props for role playing games or miniature gaming. The larger chest is about 2" tall. The smaller is about 1" tall. The Pepakura PDO templates for everything you see may be downloaded here. Sadly, there are no instructions. Papercraft design by Ken.

Printable Halloween Pumpkin D20

D20 Jack-O-Lantern Bastelbogen
If you are playing a tabletop role playing game in the month of October, this Halloween pumpkin D20 is the thing you need. Gio Lasar, the creator of this papercraft, suggests this ornery looking jack-o'-lantern would also make a nice Halloween ornament to hang about the house. The printable PDF template for the pumpkin, as well as instructions, may be found at Intructables.

In Chinese mythology, the Azure Dragon (Qinglong) symbolizes the cardinal direction east. By extension, the Qinglong also represents the season of spring. This 2.5D papercraft Azure Dragon was created for use in miniature gaming by papercraft designer, Eddnic. The printable PDF file for the model may be downloaded here. Sorry to say, there are no instructions for this model. Your best guide is the photo shown.

Printable Castle Dice Tower

I am always on the lookout for papercraft dice towers. Found one! This printable tower is in the form of a castle (quite appropriate for medieval themed RPG games that make use of dice). Dice are dropped in the top and, by way of baffles inside, the dice are neatly rolled without falling off the table. The pattern for the tower was created by Marc Vela and may be downloaded here. Instructions are available in Spanish only.

Collapsible Papercraft Dice Tower

Tim Schutz, an indie game designer from the Pacific Northwest, created this papercraft dice tower to offer as a free download on his website. According to Schutz, the tower "folds flat and can be stored inside your favorite game or in a 6x9 envelope". Nice! The PDF template for the tower may be downloaded here. Hey! How did those pigs get in the photo? ^^

Medieval Village Paper Models

Although this papercraft medieval village called "Inglemere" was created for use in RPG gaming, I can see it also being used during the holiday season as a Christmas village.  I really like the bold graphics! Except for the well, all of the components were designed by DeviantART member MadunTwoSwords. The printable templates for the village may be downloaded here. The collection of buildings includes a well, a bridge, a cottage, a tall house, a tower, a barn, fences, coniferous trees, deciduous trees, and even some forest critters.

UPDATE 7/2/2019: Madun's DA page has been deactivated. :( The link above now points to an archived version of his page.

White Dragon Paper Model

What were tabletop RPG games like before papercraft was introduced? A lot less fun, I'd say. :) Eddnic at Fantasy Paper Miniature runs one of the best websites for free 2.5D printables for miniature gaming. This white dragon is but one example of his work.  The template for the dragon may be downloaded here. Build photo by DeviatART member Cavyman.

This papercraft Moon Hopper was created for use in miniature gaming. It is similar in design to the Eagle Transporters from the old Space 1999 television show. RPG papercraft: Sci-fi Shuttle

Here's a papercraft shuttle for use in miniature gaming. The official name of this ship is the "FireBeetle Shuttle, Mark II".The shuttle's design is loosely based on shuttles seen in the Serenity sci-fi television series. The seven page PDF template for the FireBeetle may be downloaded here.

Papercraft Warmachine RPG Dice Tower

Warmachine is a steampunk themed tabletop wargame that makes use of a D20 role-playing game system. Warmachine fan Apocyphim created this papercraft dice tower to use with the game in an attempt to improve his "uncanny record of below average dice rolls." ^^ The PDF template for the dice tower may be downloaded here.

RPG Papercraft: Blue Dragon

Here's another great miniature gaming papercraft designed by Eddnic. This blue dragon is a good illustration of Eddnic's 2.5D paper model work which is so well developed that it could be considered true 3D papercraft (or at least 2.7D ^^). A download of the blue dragon template is available here.

2.5D Dragon Paper Model

The term "2.5D" is a very appropriate description for the papercraft figures that are often created for miniature gaming. They are more than just flat 2D paper figures, but something less than a full blown 3D paper model. This red dragon paper model is one of the better examples to be found of the art of 2.5D modeling. Created by ONE-MONK, the PDF template for the dragon may be downloaded here.

RPG Dragon Papercraft

This papercraft dragon was designed by Jordan Peacock, the same designer who brought us the Alice in Wonderland Chess Set. This type of model is what Jordan calls "figure flats" which are simple fold-over paper models meant to serve in the place of the more expensive painted miniatures used in role playing games. In other places I have seen papercraft of this kind referred to as a "2 1/2 D" model, which I think is a good way to describe a 3D paper construction that is built of mostly flat pieces. A PDF template containing five different colored dragons and may be downloaded here, just click on the image near the bottom of the page to the left of the heading that reads: "MORE Sundered Skies Free Figure Flats: Dragon Models".

Stargate Miniature Gaming Paper Model

This nicely done Stargate papercraft was designed to be used with the Stargate SG-1 role playing game. The RPG game, as you might guess, is based on the Stargate movie and television series. The template for this gateway was created by Sean Lambert in 2003.

UPDATE 5/4/2013: The original download site for this paper model is no longer active. A similar paper model based on Sean Lambert's design is available here.
