Mini Papercraft Dungeon RPG Game

About 13 years ago, Jim Bowen created a free miniature dungeon crawler type board game that uses paper models and a modular dungeon system. The game is called "Mini Dungeon Adventures."  I don't know how far Jim pursued his development of the game, but there is still an early edition of the game PDF located here: Internet Archive. The PDF includes both the rules, as well as printable dungeon tiles, props, characters, and item tokens. Here is a taste of what Jim has to say about the game play:

"The 1 player game has the player using two hero characters and the dungeon has pre-determined behavioral patterns for the enemies. 2-5 players have one player take on the role of the dungeon master. You generate your character from one of four races and four classes, then give them some starting equipment and send them off into the dungeon. Each time a room is explored, you roll on the monster generator chart, which shows how many and what kind of monsters there are as well as if there are any treasure chests or not."

It should be noted that dice are required to play the game. Happy gaming!

DC Comics Fables Paper Theater

Issue #100 of the DC Comics' book, Fables, contains a paper theater template. The template includes 29 cut-outs of Fables characters. As most comic book collectors don't care to cut up their books, I am providing a scan of the template for those who want to actually build the theater. The scan may be downloaded from MediaFire. The download includes three different sized printable PDF templates for the theater, plus a bonus PDF of the Fables board game that appeared in the same issue. Fables #100 was originally released in December 2010.

Papercraft Minecraft Rubik's Cube

Someone has actually created a DIY, functional Rubik's Cube out of paper! I am impressed! And if that wasn't enough, it comes in two versions: a regular version and Minecraft version. This masterpiece of paper engineering was created by Daniel Stabile. Printable templates and instructions may be found at Daniel's Instructibles.com page. Although invented in 1974, the Rubik's cube was not introduced to the US until 1980.

Papercraft Matryoshka Dolls

The first matryoshka dolls were produced by a Russian woodworker in 1890. Since that time, these type of nesting dolls have become an enduring symbol of Russian culture. Canon Creative Park has created a functional, printable papercraft version of a matryoshka doll, complete with detailed instructions. The PDF files necessary to build the doll may be downloaded for free here.  Outside of Russia, these type of dolls go by other names including "babushka dolls" and "stacking dolls".

Printable Minecraft Chess

The Pixel Papercraft website is chock-full of printable fan-created papercraft based on the Minecraft video game. My all time fav from the site has to be the Minecraft chess set pictured above. Rather than have a black side and a white side like a typical chess game, instead this game is good guys (passives) versus bad guys (aggressives). The good side features Steve as the king with a snow golem as the queen. On the bad side, a creeper and the Enderman, respectively, fill those positions. Printable Harry Potter Monopoly

This printable Harry Potter Monopoly board is not a scan of the store bought version of the game.  It is a work of fan art produced by  a Harry Potter blog in the Netherlands. Except for the houses and hotels, everything you need to play is included. I like that the instruction book for the game is made to look like a Marauder's Map.  :) The game is available in both Dutch and English language versions. The PDF templates for the English version of the game may be downloaded here.

Carmageddon Papercraft Board Game

These papercraft race cars are playing pieces in a free board game called "Carmageddon". Players win by either completing three laps around the board, killing all pedestrians (gulp!) or damaging the cars beyond repair. The download of the game (found here) includes everything needed to play including printable money, a customizable game board and a papercraft die.

Colorful Paper Cootie Catchers

Betcha the cootie catchers you made when you were a kid weren't as colorful as these. ;) Cootie catchers are those origami devices that have been used for years by kids to play "fortune telling" games. No one knows the origin of the cootie catcher, but according to one theory it had its beginning in seventeenth century Japan. These cootie catchers were created by graphic designer Sara Andersen. Papercraft Disney Villains Bowling Pins

These papercraft bowling pins shaped like Disney villains makes a fun game for preschool kids. Older kids and adults might like building the pins too. Included in the lineup are Scar (The Lion King), Jafar (Aladdin), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Hades (Hercules), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), and The Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves). Printable Tron Light Cycle Game

Created as a piece of Tron fan art by graphic designer David Landis, these papercraft light cycles may be used to play a table top game. The PDF download offered by Landis contains enough pieces for up to five people. The only other item needed for game play is a six sided die. Don't have a die handy? Try building one out of paper!

Printable Monster Rampage Board Game

You gotta love a free board game, especially when it involves both papercraft and giant monsters terrorizing a city. ^^ This printable table top game is called "Smash Monster Rampage". The PDF downloads for the game include (among other things) templates for 3D buildings, 2D monsters, and a paper die. According to the authors, a single play of the game takes about one hour.

Alice in Wonderland Chess Papercraft

Sometimes 2D papercraft can be just as much fun as 3D papercraft. Such is the case with this Alice in Wonderland chess set. The two sided flat paper chess pieces in this set are based on the illustrations by Sir John Tenniel found in the original Alice in Wonderland book. The game's PDF template designed by Jordan Peacock includes a printable chess board and may be downloaded here.

Robo Battle Pigs Paper Toy

Robo Battle Pigs is a simple game created by Randy Cox for a game design competition in 2001. The game is played on a standard chess or checker board and involves two or more mechanical pigs battling it out with lasers and powerful robot fists. After the game gained a following, illustrator Andy Kurzen designed a Robo Battle Pigs paper toy that may be used as a game piece.
