Star Trek Tricorder Papercraft

Way back in 2012, I released a life sized Star Trek medical tricorder papercraft (see original blog post here). Recently, I came across a very similar tricorder model which I hadn't seen before. It was released by the MMORPG, Star Trek Online, around 2016. A copy of the single page JPG template for the model is still available on Reddit.

Comparing the two models, the advantage of the STO model is it is designed with interior supports which make the model stronger if used for cosplay. The advantage of my model is that it comes with a handheld scanner in addition to the tricorder.

Star Trek Papercraft: USS Grissom

The science vessel starship USS Grissom appeared in the 1984 movie, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. This 1:760 scale paper model of the ship was created by Martin Sanger. A copy of the .BMP template for the ship may be downloaded from Sanger's website. Sanger has this to say about the starship:

The USS Grissom, NCC-638, was one of the most famous research spaceships of the Oberth class. These small Federation ships were designed to explore planets, nebulae and other natural phenomena...  The last mission of the USS Grissom was the exploration and research of the newly created planet Genesis. However, the ship was attacked by a Klingon Bird of Prey in orbit of the planet and completely destroyed.

STtMP Enterprise Papercraft

This 1:700 scale USS Enterprise paper model depicts how the starship appears in the 1979 movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Rawen, the designer of this papercaft, typically produces miniature models. This is one of his larger creations. The 62 mb ZIP file containing the PDF template and instruction files necessary to build the ship may be downloaded here. There are lots of extras included in the download, including a poseable Captain Spock figure with captain's chair, alternate parts to build NCC-1701-A, and a fleet of shuttles!

Star Trek Papercraft: Mini Wrath of Khan Ships

My favorite motion picture of  the original series of Star Trek movies is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In the film, Captain Kirk and Khan battle each other in space, Kirk in the U.S.S. Enterprise (of course!) and Khan in the U.S.S. Reliant which he has commandeered. These mini paper models of the Enterprise and the Reliant were created by Rawen. PDF templates for the ships may be downloaded here. I am not entirely sure, but I believe these models are 1:250 scale.

Star Trek Klingon Bird of Prey Paper Model

This Klingon Bird of Prey paper model is more specifically a B'rel Class light warship. If I am not mistaken, it is the same type of ship that appears in the 1986 movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. There are two sizes of the model available: the size pictured in the photo and a smaller version that is 1:1000 scale. Templates for both models may be downloaded at Clever PaperModel.

Star Trek Andorian Battle Cruiser Paper Model

This paper model of the starship Kumari was created by German designer, TarsFerak. The Kumari is an Andorian battle cruiser which appeared on the 2001 television series Star Trek: Enterprise. The blue skinned Andorians have a long history in the Star Trek franchise, first appearing in the original 1966 TV series in an episode entitled "Journey to Babel". The papercraft template for this model may be downloaded here. The scale of the model is 1:1700.

Star Trek TNG Aqua-shuttle Paper Model

This paper model by MTK Card Craft depicts an aqua-shuttle from the USS Excalibur, an Ambassador-class starship which appeared in several episodes of the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series. An aqua-shuttle, as you might guess, is designed to land and take off on water rather than solid surfaces. PDF and Pepakura PDO templates for the model may be downloaded here.

Papercraft Star Trek Playset

Here's a fun little papercraft playset of the Star Trek TOS bridge. The playset features hand drawn art and comes in an easy to assemble 2.5D format. The various pieces of the diorama may be found in the DeviantART gallery of MadunTwoSwords.  The floor and walls work better when they are glued to cardboard or foamcore.

Mini Papercraft Star Trek Shuttle Collection

This collection of 1:200 scale Star Trek shuttlecrafts  includes sixteen different paper models. The smallest one (as you can see) is no bigger than the tip of your finger. Several different Star Trek TV shows are represented by the models, including the original Star Trek series, The Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space 9. Papercraft Star Trek TOS Phaser Rifle

In a 1966 episode of the original Star Trek TV show ("Where No Man Has Gone Before"), Captain Kirk can be seen toting a somewhat odd looking rifle. For those of us who are fond of such retro sci-fi weapons, Perry's Paper offers a free 1/3 scale printable paper model of the gun. In the Star Trek universe, the technical name for such a gun is a "type 3 phaser", but in most cases it is referred to simply as a "phaser rifle".

Star Trek Voyager Areoshuttle Papercraft

In the Star Trek: Voyager television series there are several references to an "aeroshuttle" that is housed in the saucer section of the starship Voyager. However, the shuttle itself never actually appears in any of the show's episodes. This 1:150 scale paper model is based on a CGI model that was created for the show, but never used. A papercraft template for the aeroshuttle may be downloaded here. Official Star Trek sources describe aeroshuttles as capable of atmospheric flight as well as interstellar travel at speeds up to warp 3. The Voyager areoshuttle is said to have a cockpit designed for a crew of four.

Star Trek TOS Captain's Chair Papercraft

This papercraft captain's chair is a 1:9 scale model of the command chair of the USS Enterprise as it appears in the first episode of the original Star Trek television series. A PDF template with instructions may be downloaded from Perry's Paper.

Captain Kirk and Spock are two of the most recognizable and beloved characters in the Star Trek franchise.  Now, DeviantART member Goobeetsa has created cute papercraft likenesses of the pair for your desktop delight.

Star Trek TNG Papercraft: Type II Hand Phaser

Due to their shape, Type II hand phasers from the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series have earned the nickname "cobra phasers". This 1:1 scale paper model of a cobra phaser was created by Michael Haggard in 2004. The template and instructions for the model may be downloaded here.

Deep Space Nine Papercraft: PADD

Back in September I revamped the Star Trek: Voyager medical tricorder paper model I released in 2009. Next up on the revamp list is my 2009 PADD papercraft. The original PADD was based on a 3D model from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. However, after doing some research, I found that the PADD was configured more like a Deep Space Nine PADD than a Voyager PADD. So accordingly I changed the textures to show a DS9 readout. The new template is available here (both A4 and Letter size included). Like the original PADD, the scale of the model is 1:2.

Star Trek Papercraft: Voyager and Prometheus

These paper models are of two important starships in the Star Trek:Voyager television series. On the left is the U.S.S. Voyager, the namesake of the show. In episode one, Voyager is teleported 70,000 light years from Earth and presumed destroyed by the rest of the fleet. Pictured on the right is the U.S.S. Prometheus. The Prometheus is an advanced starship which can separate into three separate spacecraft. In the fourth season of the series, the Prometheus became the first ship in the fleet to be contacted by Voyager after its disappearance. Both of these models are by Paragon. Papercraft Star Trek Ships for Miniature Gaming

This 1:5000 scale USS Enterprise paper model is part of a collection of four Star Trek TOS ships intended for use in miniature gaming. The other ships in the set are the USS Schmidt, the USS Ptolemy and the USS Federation.The templates for these ships are small enough that all of them together fit on a single page (which may be downloaded here). Model design by Glenn Jupp and Rawen. 

Star Trek Voyager Medical Tricorder Papercraft - Version 2

A few years ago I released several Star  Trek paper models based on 3D models from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. One of these papercraft models was a Voyager type medical tricorder and scanner. I was always unhappy with the grossly pixelated textures on the model, but I could never find the time to improve them... until now. The template for the new and improved version of the tricorder may be downloaded here. The new textures aren't perfect, but they are (dare I say it?) light years beyond the old textures. ;)

Star Trek Starship Paper Models

Zosho calls himself a "novice card model designer", but his designs of Star Trek spacecraft look pretty top notch to me. ^^ Zosho recently released two more templates in his growing collection: a Saber-class  starship and a Olympic-class starship. The Saber-class is a small, heavily armed ship while the Olympic class is primarily used as a hospital ship. The JPG templates for the ships may be downloaded here and here.
