Sonic Anniversary Papercraft

This year is the 35th anniversary of the first Sonic the Hedgehog video game! Ten years ago for the 25th anniversary, this papercraft Sonic was created by Sabi96 to commemorate the event. The 23 page PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. The finished figure is about 19.7" (50 cm) tall. And although Sabi doesn't say, it is highly likely some kind of weight is required inside Sonic's foot in order to get him to stand up on his own. ;)

Vintage Sonic & Shadow Papercraft

I enjoy digging up older papercraft so people can continue to enjoy them. A recent find was these Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog paper models. Here is what I was able to discover about these:

• These are official paper models released by Sega. 
• There is no release or copyright date on the templates. The earliest mention of these models I could find online was in 2006, so the models were created that year or earlier.
• The templates are numbered. The Sonic Template is number 1. The Shadow template is number 5, so there must be at least another 3 characters in the series. Let me know if you know who the other characters are and where I can find them!

The templates for these models are both saved at the Internet Archive and may be downloaded here and here. From comments online, people universally agree the heads of these paper models are complicated and require patience to build. You have been warned! :)

UPDATE 5/4/25: Since posting this, I have discovered more information! The series was released in 2003 and included six characters. See all the characters offered at this archived Sonic Team page.

Sonic the Hedgehog Paper Model

With the release of his second live action movie, Sonic the Hedgehog continues his thirty year popularity streak. This paper model homage to Sonic was created by Pendragon Papercraft. The PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. The thing I like about this particular model is the accurate portrayal of Sonic's freakishly long nose. X )

I was surprised to find Arby's restaurant is offering free Sonic the Hedgehog paper toys. No kid's meal purchase required! ;) This offer might be a tie-in to the Sonic movie that is in theaters now, however Arby's doesn't seem to mention the movie anywhere on their website. Four different paper toys are being offered: Sonic, Amy, Tails, and Shadow. The PDF templates for the toys may be downloaded here.

Sonic Papercraft: Knuckles the Echidna

I like posting about papercraft from years gone by because many who are new to the hobby may have never seen them before. This Knuckles the Echidna model was created in 2012 by one of my favorite papercrafters, Destro2k. Knuckles, as you probably know, is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games. Sonic Papercraft: Flying Pose Tails

Sonic the Hedgehog's best bud Tails got his name from the fact he is a fox with two tails. In the Sonic video games Tails can be seen using his tails to fly around like a helicopter. Tails real name is Miles Prower (sounds like "miles per hour", get it?). This most excellent paper model of Tails in a flying pose was created by Destro2K. Destro warns: "The model has a flying pose and will not stand anywhere. It is very hard and has a lot of weird looking pieces." If that doesn't scare you, the template may be downloaded here. :)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Papercraft: Power-ups

I have fond memories of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game. Sonic 2 was released in 1992 for the 16 bit Sega Genesis gaming console. It was the first game in the Sonic series to feature the character Tails. Power-ups in the game came in the form of video monitors. Billybob884 has created paper models of all 13 of the power-ups (a sample of which are shown above). The template for the power-ups is a single Pepakura PDO file with interchangeable textures.
