Cute Origami Cat Rings

What's not to love about these origami cat rings? They are easy to fold, just the kind of project to do with kids. The video instructions for folding the rings from a single square of paper may be found on Pinterest. Rings for small children should be folded from a 6"x6" square of paper. For adults, a 9"x9" square of paper works well. Happy folding!

Wolf Warrior Origami Ring

I noticed recently there are a lot of people posting original origami videos on Pinterest. Here is one that caught my eye: a "wolf warrior" ring. Now, there was a 2015 movie called Wolf Warrior, but as far as I know, this ring has nothing to do with that. The ring somewhat resembles a Witcher 3D wolf head ring I saw once, but my guess is someone just thought it looked cool to have a ring with a wolf on it. Pop-up Origami Angels

These origami angels from David Brill can be folded to be either free standing figures or greeting card pop-ups. The folding pattern for the angel is a modification of a "Christmas fairy" origami. PDF Folding diagrams of both the angel and the Christmas fairy may be downloaded from David's website located here. Also available from David is a video tutorial showing how to fold both versions of the angel.

Pokeball Origami Gift Box

Here's a neat pokeball origami gift box from Paper Kawaii. The box is created from five 15 x 15 cm squares of paper: 2 white, 2 red and 1 black. Paper Kawaii lists the difficulty of folding this origami creation four out of five stars. The instructions are in video format only. No folding diagrams are available.

Pokeballs are, of course, for catching Pokemon. So, you might want to put one inside the box when you are finished. Paper Kawaii has a Pikachu you can fold. Below are some other possibilities made out of paper for inside the box.  However with these, you might need to build the Pokemon smaller or the box bigger if you want the lid to close!

Origami Turkey

Happy Thanksgiving! To celebrate the holiday here is an awesome origami turkey by Jo Nakashima. To create the design, Jo modified a previously designed pigeon origami. I thought these origami versions of Wolverine's adamantium blades were fun. If you bend your fingers and hold your hand just right, you can make it appear as if the claws are coming out of the back of your hand, just like Wolvey. This origami was created by TLT Lab. Their video with detailed folding instructions is located here. Wolverine first appeared in Marvel Comics way back in 1974!

Godzilla Origami

I love all things Godzilla. I have seen many types of Godzilla fan art, but I have to say this is the first Godzilla origami I have seen. This paper kaiju was created by origami designer Seiji Nishikawa. Video folding instructions for the piece may be found here. A 12" x 12" (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) square of paper is recommended. Origami Butterflies

It has been a while since I posted any origami. Time to remedy the origami drought. ;) Here are some origami butterflies I thought were really nice. A couple of different types are pictured, but the one that interested me the most was the swallowtail butterfly. Detailed video instructions for the swallowtail may be found here. Day of the Dead Origami Skulls

Día de Muertos (The Day of the Dead) is nearly upon us. This year it begins on October 31, the same day as Halloween, and runs through November 2. Día de Muertos is a time when Mexican families remember loved ones who are no longer living. These origami skulls were created by Origami Spirit for use as Day of the Dead decorations. Printable Totoro Origami

I hate to use the term "printable origami" but that is pretty much what these origami Totoros are. Instead of using a pre-colored square of paper like is done in traditional origami, a square is printed from a PDF file. Graphics for the Totoro's face and belly are positioned on the square so they end up in the right place after the folding is complete. The templates for these Totoros were created by Paper Kawaii and maybe downloaded here. Totoros are one of the many characters to be found in the animated movies produced by the Japanese company, Studio Ghibli.

Origami Owl

This excellent origami owl was folded by Flickr member "Origamidoc" from a 19.7" x 19.7" (50 cm x 50 cm) square of paper. The specific type of owl it is intended to represent is the Blakiston's fish owl, which is the largest species of the bird. An excellent video tutorial on how to fold the owl may be found here. The original origami design is by Katsuta Kyohei.

I haven't done a post on origami in a while, so today is the day. Being partial to origami flowers, I thought these violets created by Origami Around were most excellent. These are not a project for the origami purist as they are created from more than one square of paper and some gluing is involved. Instructions on how to fold the violets may be found here.

Printable Origami Dragon

Here's a novel idea: instead of buying pre-printed patterned origami paper, how about printing paper with a pattern of your own design. That is exactly what Jacque Davis did with this print and fold origami dragon. A copy of her template may be found on Jacque's Flickr page. I really like what she did with the colors and geometric designs!

3D Origami Pikachu

Unlike most Pikachu origami around, this piece is 3D rather than flat. Pikachu is arguably the best loved (and cutest!) pocket monster in the Pokemon franchise. Origami Penguin

Is that you Gunter? ^^ This origami penguin is one of the many designs of origami artist Jo Nakashima. Origami Christmas Advent Calendar

Christmas origami is not all that common, but here is one cute example: an advent calendar! This creative calendar consists of tiny origami bags that can be filled with treats. The bags may be scattered across a table top as is shown in the photo or they may be pinned to a string and hung like a garland. Origami Skeleton Hand

Origami Unicorn

Origami artist Jo Nakashima has dozens and dozens of origami tutorials on his YouTube channel. Here is one of my favorites from the bunch: a unicorn! Jo's videos have a slow, careful pace that is helpful for those less skilled in the art (like myself ^^).  Other origami tutorials by Jo include dragons, dinosaurs, rabbits, insects, and even a capybara!

Fire Wyvern Origami

Wyverns often appear in English, Scottish, and Irish heraldry. The technical definition of a wyvern is "a winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail". This origami wyvern was folded from a single 12" square of paper by DeviantART member, Cahoonas. I especially like the design of the wings! The crease pattern for the wyvern can be found here.
