Mini Sphinx Papercraft

Sphinx Bastelbogen
Several years ago Canon started making mini versions of their architecture papercraft. These models were intended for beginners. One of my favs from their mini collection is this Egyptian Sphinx model. And yes, the pyramid is included! The finished model is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. PDFs of the template and the instructions are available on the Canon website. A free Canon account is required in order to download. This model takes about a hour to build.

2.5D Chinese Dragon Papercraft

In Chinese mythology, the Azure Dragon (Qinglong) symbolizes the cardinal direction east. By extension, the Qinglong also represents the season of spring. This 2.5D papercraft Azure Dragon was created for use in miniature gaming by papercraft designer, Eddnic. The printable PDF file for the model may be downloaded here. Sorry to say, there are no instructions for this model. Your best guide is the photo shown.

Discord is a male draconequus (literally "dragon horse") who at first antag-onizes the ponies, but later becomes their friend. Cupid Paper Toy

Here's a cute Cupid paper toy to make for a Valentine's Day decoration. Although it looks simple enough to build, the designer of this papercraft sets the difficulty level of the toy at "medium". A printable PDF of the template may be downloaded here. Valentine's day has been celebrated in the United States since the 19th century.

Krampus Paper Toy

In certain European countries, the Feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated on December 6th. In many of these countries, "Krampus Night" (in German Krampusnacht) is celebrated on December 5th. Whereas St. Nicholas comes to bring good children presents, Krampus comes to bring naughty children coal. Krampus also carries a bundle of birch branches in order to swat those children that are particularly naughty. Extremely naughty children are carried away to Krampus' lair. This paper toy Krampus was created by Trystan Mitchell and may be downloaded here.

Origami Unicorn

Origami artist Jo Nakashima has dozens and dozens of origami tutorials on his YouTube channel. Here is one of my favorites from the bunch: a unicorn! Jo's videos have a slow, careful pace that is helpful for those less skilled in the art (like myself ^^).  Other origami tutorials by Jo include dragons, dinosaurs, rabbits, insects, and even a capybara!

Other Origami Animals:
Bat
Horse
Foxes

MLP Princess Celestia Papercraft

Princess Celestia, along with her sister, Princess Luna, are co-rulers of Equestria, the land that is the setting for the animated television series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Celestia and her sister are "alicorns" which is the term used on the show for horses that have the characteristics of both a pegasus and a unicorn. This papercraft Celestia was created by DeviantART member Muffinshire and may be downloaded here. Two different Princess Luna paper models were previously posted here and here.

Fire Wyvern Origami

Wyverns often appear in English, Scottish, and Irish heraldry. The technical definition of a wyvern is "a winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail". This origami wyvern was folded from a single 12" square of paper by DeviantART member, Cahoonas. I especially like the design of the wings! The crease pattern for the wyvern can be found here.

Trojan Horse Paper Toy

In 2010 this cute Trojan horse paper toy was released as a promotional item to advertise the Nintendo DS video game, Glory of Heracles.  The cool thing about the toy is it has an actual secret compartment built into the side. Brian Castleforte, founder of Nice Paper Toys, is the designer of the piece. A PDF template for the horse is still available for download here.

White Dragon Paper Model

What were tabletop RPG games like before papercraft was introduced? A lot less fun, I'd say. :) Eddnic at Fantasy Paper Miniature runs one of the best websites for free 2.5D printables for miniature gaming. This white dragon is but one example of his work.  The template for the dragon may be downloaded here. Build photo by DeviatART member Cavyman.

The original pattern for the dwarf was created by French origami master Eric Joisel. Links to the crease pattern and instructional videos may be found at the bottom of the page here. Papercraft Gnomes

This plethora of gnomes, or I should say "snorfs", is the creation of Maarten Janssens at 3EyedBear. There are fifteen different snorfs in all, each with a unique name. Click on the image of the snorf that you want here to download its PDF template.

Papercraft Mermaid Chair and Treasure Chest

This fanciful papercraft mermaid, chair and treasure chest were created by Phee McFaddell. The template for each is a color-it-yourself  PNG file which may either be printed and colored by hand or colored with a program like Adobe Photoshop. The chair and the treasure chest are what I would consider 2 1/2 D papercraft. The mermaid is more like a paper doll, although her tail is designed to be folded so that she may actually sit in the chair. The templates for all three items may be downloaded here.

Neddy the Yeti Paper Toy

Bryan C. Ratliff makes some sweet paper toys. This "Neddy the Yeti" paper toy is one of my favs. In pop culture, the yeti is one of the best known cryptids (animals who certain people believe to exist, but whose existence has not been verified by science). A PDF template of Neddy may be downloaded at Ratliff's Chemical9 website (look in the "monsters" section).

Poseable Papercraft Dragon

Netroids are poseable papercraft creatures that can be assembled without glue. Out of the four creatures currently available, this dragon is my fave. Other creatures include a raptor, a stegosaurus  and an unicorn. Printing the on color card stock is recommended for the best look.

UPDATE 7/25/25: This dragon is no longer available. :(

Quadricorn Paper Model

Straight from the hilarious Ameristar Casino television commercials, it's a papercraft Quadricorn! Ameristar commissioned well known papercraft designer Taras Lesko to create this Quadricorn paper model as a promotional item for the 2011 holiday season. Mermaid Papercraft

The Little Mermaid in Hans Christian Anderson's version of the story gains human legs but feels excruciating pain each time she walks. Later, the prince she loves marries another and the little mermaid dies brokenhearted. Quite a bit different from Disney's version, eh? ;) This free papercraft by the Mochinuki Printing Company tries to capture some of the sorrrow of the original tale. The PDF template is available here.

Yeti & Evil Sheep Papercraft

Hidden on the Snowdin website are four free snow related paper toys: A Saint Bernard rescue dog, a chalet, and my two favorites, Yeti and Evil Sheep. According to Snowdin: "The battle between Evil Sheep and Yeti is as old as the struggle between good and evil itself." Snowdin is chock-full of fun wintry activities. Don't forget to bring your 3D glasses along if you visit!

RPG Papercraft: Blue Dragon

Here's another great miniature gaming papercraft designed by Eddnic. This blue dragon is a good illustration of Eddnic's 2.5D paper model work which is so well developed that it could be considered true 3D papercraft (or at least 2.7D ^^). A download of the blue dragon template is available here.
