Game of Thrones Papercraft Coins

Papercraft coins are curious thing. Not much to them really. There are three parts: a front, a back, and a thin strip for the edge of the coin. Usually, the reason people build them is for a fan art display. Such is the case for Hellsword Papercraft who has created a collection of papercraft coins from Game of Thrones. There are nine different coins in the collection. I am not a GoT expert, but I think there are nine coins because there is one coin from each of the nine administrative regions of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. DIY Papercraft Mockingjay Pin

This papercraft mockingjay pin uses a construction technique I had never seen before. Layers of cardstock are glued flat on top of one another to create a sculptural effect. The end result, to my eye at least, is very close to the prop pins used in the Hunger Games movies. A free printable template for the pin may be downloaded from Steve's Paper. The pin in the photo was coated with super glue to strengthen the paper. According to Steve this final step makes the pin "surprisingly tough".

7th Anniversary!

Remember, remember the fifth of November... is the anniversary of Tektonten Papercraft! Yes, seven years ago today I began blogging about the wonderful world of papercraft. Today's photo features four of my pop culture paper models from years gone by. Each one has something to do with an eye. Starting on the left and going clockwise there is the Millennium Eye from Yu-Gi-Oh (2011), the masonic medallion (with Eye of Providence) from National Treasure (2009), the Eye of Agamotto from the Marvel comic book Doctor Strange (2009), and lastly there is the seeing stone from Coraline (2009). Here's thanks to each and every person who has visited Tektonten Papercraft in the past seven years. I couldn't have made it this far without you!

Skyrim Papercraft: Septim Coins

The Septim coin is the main currency In the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video game. According to the Skyrim Wiki:

"The Septim is named after the dynasty that rules the Septim Empire founded by Tiber Septim. It is officially called a Septim due to the bust of Tiber Septim on the obverse side. The legend on the obverse (front) is: The Empire is Law. The Law is Sacred. The reverse reads: Praise be, Akatosh and all the Divines."

Tomb Raider Triangle of Light Papercraft

In the 2001 movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara must locate two halves of a powerful relic known as the Triangle of Light. Pictured are two 1:2 scale paper models of the Triangle. One model is of the Triangle when it is whole and the other model shows the Triangle after it is split to prevent misuse of its power. The PDF template for the Triangle of Light includes both the whole and the split versions and comes in both A4 and Letter sizes. This project has been on my to-do list for a long time and I am happy to finally get it completed.

UPDATE 11/24/12 - Sorry folks, the fine people at the Tomb Raider franchise felt this fan art of mine was a copyright violation. So for now, the template for this papercraft is no longer available. :(

Headpiece to the Staff of Ra Build Photo

Jerry Vondeling built and posted a photo of my Headpiece to the Staff of Ra papercraft back in 2010, but I only recently became aware of it. Nice work Jerry! Official Ben 10 Papercraft

These two items are the first official Ben 10 papercraft from Cartoon Network I have come across. The first item is a papercraft omnitrix watch which includes ten different medallions that can be attached to the face. The second item is a paper toy of Ben himself. In the show, Ben uses the omnitrix to transform into various alien creatures.

Try as I might, I could not find these papercraft models on the US version of the Cartoon Network website. They appear to only be available on the French version of the site. To get the goods, look for the download links at the bottom of the page here.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Eye Papercraft

On a whim, I took my Eye of Agamotto paper model and made some modifications to create this Millennium Eye papercraft. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, the Millennium Eye is one of seven Millennium artifacts that give their bearers special powers. Among other things, the Eye gives the bearer the ability to read another's mind and to see what their eyes see. This papercraft is actually two models: the Millennium Eye itself and a carved stone base to hold the Eye. For a smoother look, the Eye in the photo above was built without folding the pieces. Goonies Papercraft: Copper Bones

I have had this papercraft sitting on the back burner for quite some time, but last weekend I finally got it finished and ready to post. The Goonies has over the years become something of a cult movie classic. This papercraft is of the "copper bones", a skull shaped key that the kids in the movie make use of to find a pirate treasure. Details of the template are as follows:

Marvel Papercraft - Eye of Agamotto

In the Marvel Comics universe perhaps no hero wields greater magical powers than Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme. Doctor Strange possesses numerous magical artifacts which he uses to amplify his power, but there are only two he keeps on his person at all times. One is the Cloak of Levitation wrapped around his shoulders and the other is the Eye of Agamotto fastened at his throat. In this papercraft design I created two versions of the Eye of Agamotto to reflect the varying ways the amulet has been portrayed by different comic book artists over the years. In some cases artists have portrayed the amulet as an open golden eye, but more often as not the amulet has been drawn as a closed golden eye whose lids open when its magic is activated to reveal the true "living" Eye of Agamotto inside. Template information for the papercraft model is below. The download includes PDF files of both the metallic and living versions of the Eye as well as lined and non-lined versions of each.

National Treasure Papercraft - Masonic Medallion

This is my papercraft rendition of a Masonic medallion that appears in the 2004 Disney movie, National Treasure. In the movie, American treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates follows a series of cryptic clues to find an ancient treasure whose history is intertwined with the history of both Freemasonry and the Knights Templar. In the movie trailer, the medallion can be glimpsed briefly first in the hand of Christopher Columbus and then later in the hand of one of the Knights Templar:

Final Fantasy X-2 Papercraft Coins

Inside the Final Fantasy X-2 video game there is a mini game called "Sphere Break". Sphere Break is a Sudoku-like, math based game that uses coins as part of the game play. There are 64 different coins used in the game, each of which has a different picture of a Final Fantasy character. Pictured above is a sampling of some of the coins. On the front row, from left to right, is a Cactaur coin, a Tidus coin, and a Chocobo coin. The second row shows the typical pattern on the back face of each of the coins. Papercrafter's Haven has created papercraft versions of all 64 coins which are available here. Each of the papercraft coins measures appoximately 1 1/2" (38 mm) across and are about 1/8" (3 mm) thick.

UPDATE 7/2/2019: The Papercrafter's Haven website (along with the 64 coins) is long gone. However, I was able to salvage templates for the three coins pictured above. The link above now points to a PDF download for the three coins rather than pointing to the original website. Better than nothing I suppose... 

Indiana Jones Papercraft - Ra Staff Headpiece

Featured in the movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Headpiece to the Staff of Ra was able to locate the final resting place of the lost Ark of the Covenant. When the headpiece was placed in a particular position in the Map Room, the sun would shine through the crystal and reveal the location of the Well of the Souls, the final resting place of the Ark.
