Paper Iconic, the creator of this low poly bear papercraft, describes his creation as "bas-relief." Bas-relief is an ancient technique of stone carving where sculpted 3D figures project ever so slightly from a flat background. The dimensions of the bear from the front are roughly 16" (40 cm) x 8" (20 cm), yet the depth of the bear is only 2.6" (6.6 cm). The template and instructions for this wall art may be downloaded from
Pepakura Gallery. As the template is white, it is not explained how to achieve a black bear, as pictured. The only two options I can think of are: 1) to paint the finished model or 2) print the template on dual sided black and white cardstock so that the template is printed on the white side and then fold "backwards" so the black is on the outside.
