Big Donkey Kong Papercraft

The first appearance of the Nintendo character, Donkey Kong, was in an eponymous 1981 arcade game. Since that time, Donkey Kong has appeared in numerous Nintendo video games, not to mention the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. Standing at 29.7" (75 cm) tall this Donkey Kong paper model is large! The template download (found here) includes lots of files including an unlocked Pepakura PDO file and a Metasequoia 3D model file. Pokemon Papercraft: Yamper

This Pokémon looks suspiciously like a corgi dog! Could it be that after 8 generations they have finally run out of ideas for new Pokémon? Nah. This paper likeness of Yamper the Pokédog was created by Emily Stell at the Paper Duplicator website. PDF and Pepakura PDO papercraft template files may be downloaded here. The finished model stands about 5" (12 cm) tall.

Garbage Pail Kids Paper Toy

In the mid 1980's, Topps produced a series of sticker trading cards called "Garbage Pail Kids". Intended to be a parody of Cabbage Patch dolls, the cartoon art on the cards depicts Cabbage-Patch-like children in disturbing situations. By 1987, the cards had become so popular a live action GPK motion picture was released! To commemorate the Garbage Pail phenom, Paperfoldables offers this paper toy of "Adam Bomb" who graced the wrapper of the trading card packages for many years. STtMP Enterprise Papercraft

This 1:700 scale USS Enterprise paper model depicts how the starship appears in the 1979 movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Rawen, the designer of this papercaft, typically produces miniature models. This is one of his larger creations. The 62 mb ZIP file containing the PDF template and instruction files necessary to build the ship may be downloaded here. There are lots of extras included in the download, including a poseable Captain Spock figure with captain's chair, alternate parts to build NCC-1701-A, and a fleet of shuttles!

Mini Sphinx Papercraft

Several years ago Canon started making mini versions of their architecture papercraft. These models were intended for beginners. One of my favs from their mini collection is this Egyptian Sphinx model. And yes, the pyramid is included! The finished model is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. PDFs of the template and the instructions are available on the Canon website. A free Canon account is required in order to download. This model takes about a hour to build.

Vintage Dutch Village Papercraft

The kids' activities website, Woo! Jr, offers this vintage Dutch village papercraft as a free download. Originally drawn in the 1930's, this diorama depicts farm life in the Netherlands in the 1800's. The 3D elements in the set include two houses, a rowboat, a bridge, and a windmill with blades that actually spin. The 2D elements include townsfolk, animals, a tree, and (of course) tulips. The color-it-yourself papercraft template for the village in the form of eight JPG files may be downloaded here. Papercraft Wolf Head

It is curious why so many papercraft designers have created what amounts to life size paper models of taxidermized animal heads. Now, many of the heads are "low poly" geometric representations, but others, like this wolf head by Paper Juke are quite realistic. I assume Juke used a 3D model from some video game as the basis of this papercraft. The Pepakura PDO template for the head may be downloaded here. The finished model is about 10" (26 cm) wide. Assassin's Creed Papercraft: Al Mualim

In the Assassin's Creed universe, the character Al Mualim is the leader of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins. In the storyline of the video game, Al Mualim becomes obsessed with a powerful golden relic known as the "Apple of Eden" and works with his enemies, the Knights Templar, to obtain it. This paper model depicts Al Mualim with the Apple of Eden in his hand. The finished model stands at 15 3/4" (40 cm) tall. Game of Thrones Papercraft Coins

Papercraft coins are curious thing. Not much to them really. There are three parts: a front, a back, and a thin strip for the edge of the coin. Usually, the reason people build them is for a fan art display. Such is the case for Hellsword Papercraft who has created a collection of papercraft coins from Game of Thrones. There are nine different coins in the collection. I am not a GoT expert, but I think there are nine coins because there is one coin from each of the nine administrative regions of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. 3D Papercraft Cicada Shell

Across the world, there are more than 3000 species of the insect known as the "cicada". Each of the species has a common feature: the nymphs shed their skins to emerge as winged adults. At the right time of the year you can find hundreds of their empty shells clinging to plants and trees. Just the thing for scaring your little sister! ;) This 3D papercraft cicada shell was created by a Japanese papercraft designer in 2008. The template for the model consists of 7 JPG images which may be downloaded here. There is a link on the download page to photo instructions showing how to build the model. The estimated length of the model is 12" (30 cm).
