Detailed Space Shuttle Papercraft

You would be hard pressed to find a more detailed papercraft space shuttle than this one. In addition to a "generic" space shuttle model, Italian designer Raimondo Fortezza has also created templates for each of the specific shuttles including Endeavour, Atlantis, Discovery, Challenger, and Columbia. The Atlantis model shown in the build photo above is the work of David Hanners who enlarged the original template slightly from 1:100 scale to 1:96 scale. Fortezza's shuttle templates are available for download at the Marscenter website here. Also available at the website are templates for detailed models of the International Space Station, Soyuz and other space exploration related models.

  1. Hi,

Just an update for the website link as it has been dead for a while now: http://web.archive.org/web/20060506222903/http://www.marscenter.it/eng/veicol.asp?pa=605
Will post an updated - photorealistic Shuttle template here later on.

  2. Here's the template I've promised. Sorry if I'm not allowed to post this:

I have made this ages ago but never found time to try it out. Hope that someone will find it useful.

The idea was to make it look photorealistic and add some details such as plastic windows. The gray window areas should be cut out adding a layer of plastic behind and glueing a duplicate window with a 'view'. Also a part with Endeavour flag on it is to be glued to cardboard and inserted on the bottom of the frame (under the belly surface) to improve the overall integrity. Other than that, follow the original assembly instructions and improvise. :)

    Regards,
    Arvydas

    1. Thanks for sharing your shuttle model! Do you have a photo of the finished model you could send me? I would like to feature your model in a blog post. My email address is on my Blogger profile.

    2. No unfortunately. As I said, I have done the template but never found enough time to build it myself. After more than 5 years I've got an idea to share it with hobbyists. However, some of the parts are not complete (like Payload bay doors) and there might be mismatches between some parts and edges (Cockpit windows). Feel free to use it and experiment. :) (Textures based on the original work by Preacher_MG for Orbiter Space Flight Simulator)
