Half-Life 1 Papercraft: 357 Magnum

Someone correctly guessed the four images on my 15th anniversary post. So, as a "prize", I am releasing this paper model of the 357 Magnum from the Half-Life 1 video game. Printable templates for the model may be downloaded from Mediafire. Included in the ZIP download are a locked Pepakura PDO file (for reference when building), plus A4 and Letter size PDF templates. I tried to make the model as close to 1:1 scale as possible. You will notice the gun has no finger hole at the trigger! The 3D model that was the basis of this papercraft didn't have the hole and I chose to leave it as it was. If you are good at customizing papercraft, it should be no big deal to cut in a finger hole if you want one.

Papercraft Christmas Star Ornament

I like the geometric quality of this papercraft Christmas star ornament. I believe the technical name for this shape is the "first stellation of an icosidodecahedron". Please correct me if I am wrong. :) This papercraft is one of several different star ornaments that may be downloaded at the Brother Creative Center.  This star has 32 points. The other two stars in the series have 8 points and 14 points.

Egyptian Funerary Mask Papercraft

This life size papercraft mask is very close in design to the gold funerary mask of pharaoh Tutankhamun. However, it is missing some of the features of King Tut's mask like the vulture and the cobra on the forehead. I don't know the author of this paper model, but a link in the template seems to indicate it originated in Russia. The unlocked Pepakura PDO template for the model may be downloaded on Mediafire.

Pop-up Holiday House Papercraft

Canon offers a huge assortment of tiny DIY papercraft projects in their "Miniature World" collection. The seasonal pop-up books in the collection are some of my favorites. Pictured is their "Happy Holidays" book which features a four room pop-up house that is decorated for Christmas. This papercraft and many others may be found at the Canon Creative Park website. Canon estimates it will take 3 hours to build the house.

15th Anniversary!

Earlier this month (the 5th to be exact) was the 15th anniversary of my first blog post on Tektonten Papercraft! Fifteen years is pretty ancient when it comes to papercraft blogs. Most of the big papercraft blogs I followed when I first started are now dead. May they rest in peace. ;) I will keep my little blog going until I no longer find any enjoyment in it, and that is not likely to happen any time soon. :) Thanks to everyone who visits and even greater thanks to those who make return visits. You are appreciated.

Pictured are a few of the dozens (or is it hundreds?) of unfinished paper models I have on my hard drive. Who knows? I may yet release some of these... I will leave it to you to identify what these are.

Medieval RPG Hand Cart Papercraft

This medieval hand cart paper model was created by Paperschnitzel as a free promotional download for the RPG game, Ravenfeast. To be exact, Ravenfeast is a historical tabletop wargame set in the Age of Vikings. The PDF template for the cart, as well as instructions, may be downloaded from the Ravenfeast website. The template in the download is a simplified version of what is shown in the photo. However, an advanced papercrafter will be able to produce the results in the photo by printing the template multiple times, gluing the pieces to heavy cardstock, then layering pieces during construction for a more 3D effect. If I am not mistaken, this cart is 28mm scale.

Vader's TIE Fighter Paper Model

You may have noticed I like Star Wars papercraft! :) Here is a model that I thought was particularly nice. It is Darth Vader's TIE fighter (aka TIE Advance x1) from Star Wars Episode IV. What I like about this model is it is fairly easy to build, plus it has nicely done textures (notice the "weathering" on the rear of the TIE). This model was designed by JLeslie48 and may be downloaded at his website, www.zoneactivitemanuelle.com. Included in the download is a Pepakura PDO file and a lineless PDF.

Kaiju Papercraft: Gamera

Gamera is, well, a giant prehistoric flying turtle. I always thought he was just another one of Godzilla's many foes. Turns out, I was wrong. The two have never met on the big screen. Gamera is a star in his own right, to date having appeared in twelve movies bearing his name. This papercraft Gamera was created by Chimpun. The Pepakura PDO template for the model may be downloaded from the Pepakura Gallery. This model is smaller than it may look. It will easily fit in the palm of your hand!

DIY 3D Trump Mask

Happy Halloween! Here's a creepy mask for your trick or treating fun: Donald Trump! Andy Kong, who created the mask, says the mask is intended for both supporters and protestors of Trump. Spaceball One Paper Model

Spaceballs is a 1987 spoof of the original Star Wars movie from 1977. In the movie, the parody of Darth Vader, Dark Helmet, has an enormous starship named Spaceball One. This miniature papercraft of the Spaceball One was created by paper model designer, Rawen. There are lots of nice touches in the detailing of the model, like the inclusion of the "WE BRAKE FOR NOBODY" bumper sticker on the back of the ship, as seen in the movie. The PDF template for the model may be found at this download link. Included in the download is a bonus template to build a 1/250 scale model of everyone's favorite flying Winnebago, the Eagle 5.

Mini Papercraft Pixar Up! House

Since 2011, I have posted two different paper models of Carl's house from the Disney Pixar movie UP!. One of the models was tiny, very detailed, and hard to build. The other was larger, simple, and easy to build. Pictured is a third model of the house that blends the best of the previous two models: it is miniature, yet easy to build. Papercraft Minecraft Rubik's Cube

Someone has actually created a DIY, functional Rubik's Cube out of paper! I am impressed! And if that wasn't enough, it comes in two versions: a regular version and Minecraft version. This masterpiece of paper engineering was created by Daniel Stabile. Printable templates and instructions may be found at Daniel's Instructibles.com page. Although invented in 1974, the Rubik's cube was not introduced to the US until 1980.

The tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies was released in 2009. Can you believe it was that long ago?! In the game, cute but tenacious plants defend their garden against a zombie hoard. Pictured are papercraft versions of two of the shooting plants from the game: peashooter and repeater. These somewhat "chibi-fied" paper toys were created by Mayainpaper. Iron Man Mk 33 Armor Paper Model

In the Iron Man 3 movie, Tony Stark commands his artificial intelligence, J.A.R.V.I.S, to remotely pilot his empty suits of armor as a defensive measure in a battle. One of the suits activated was the Mark XXXIII (a.k.a the Silver Centurion armor). This paper model represents how the armor appeared in the movie. The template for the model, which is in Pepakura PDO format only, may be found at this download link. The finished model stands 19.7" (50 cm) tall. Build photo and papercraft design by Sinsis. The first appearance of the Silver Centurion armor in a Marvel comic was in 1985 in issue #200 of Iron Man.

Nefertiti Bust Paper Model

Nefertiti was a queen who ruled in Egypt around 1350 BC. Her name was made famous because of a beautiful bust of her likeness that now resides in the Neues Museum in Berlin. Making use of a 3D scan, this paper model of the bust was created by BioM5. The printable templates required to build the bust are in Pepakura PDO format and may be found at Instructables.com. Nefertiti was the stepmother of King Tutankhamun, another famous name in the world of Egyptology.

One Piece Blackbeard Pirates Ship

As you may know, the One Piece anime is all about pirates. In the earlier episodes of the show, the group known as the Blackbeard Pirates makes use of a ship that appears to be a simple raft. Upon closer inspection however, it can be seen that the "raft" is built of redwood sized logs that have been hollowed out. Gun ports line every side. This papercraft likeness of the ship was created by GoPaper. The PNG format template may be found at this download link. Sorry folks, no instructions for this model! It should be easy enough to figure out, though, if you reference the photos while you build.

FNaF 1 Papercraft

In the genre of horror video games, none is more popular than the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. The games task the player to survive the night without getting caught by a host of creepy animatronic animals come to life.  Pictured are paper models of all the animatronic characters from the first video game in the series. From left to right we have Foxy the Pirate Fox, Bonnie the Bunny, Freddy Fazbear, Golden Freddy, Chica the Chicken, and Carl the Cupcake. Shark Head Papercraft

This shark head is a little more realistic that your typical low poly papercraft wall hanging. However, as it is still composed of angular shapes, it makes for a relatively easy build. The finished model is around 20"(50 cm) high. If the model is considered to be life size, it would be close to the size of a small to medium sized shark. In the world of SpongeBob SquarePants, the best fast food restaurant around is The Krusty Krab. Their famous Krabby Patty burgers are cooked by SpongeBob himself, who is the fry cook for the establishment. This paper model of the Krab was created by Luis Paraqueimo. The template for the model is available in Pepakura PDO format only and may be downloaded here. The finished restaurant building is about 12" (30 cm) long.

Skyrim Papercraft: Glass Sword

The last time I posted a Skyrim papercraft was 2015. I am overdue! Pictured is a 1:1 scale paper model of a glass sword from the video game. How can a sword be made of glass you say? The Elder Scrolls Wiki explains:

"Despite their name, 'glass' weapons are not made of actual glass, but of refined Malachite, a strong, glass-like green stone which can be sharpened to a fine edge..."

This model was created by Broken Papercrafts. The template is available in Pepakura PDO format only and may be downloaded here. The download includes two textures, one to make a green bladed sword, and another to make one that is blue bladed (pictured).

Zoids Liger Zero Papercraft

Liger Zero has a long history in the Zoids franchise. The Hasbro company produced snap-together plastic model kits of Liger Zero in 1999. He is the central character in two different anime series: Zoids: New Century (2001) and Zoids: Fuzors (2004).  This papercraft Liger Zero was created by Paperzero Papercraft. Low Poly Deer Skull Papercraft

Here's another great low poly papercraft skull from Gedelgo! This time it is a life-size deer skull. It's just the thing to hang over the fireplace in the hunting lodge. ;) The template is all white. If color is desired, then color cardstock must be used. For example, in the photo, the antlers were printed on black cardstock. Seeing ads for the Barbie movie reminded me... I never did finish posting all the entries in the Barbie papercraft house series! I previously posted three houses: Barbie's Dreamhouse, House of Ken, and the Raquelle Mansion. Now I give you the fourth in the series: House of Nikki. Nikki is best friends with Barbie and Teresa. She actively maintains a vlog about current fashion trends. The papercraft template for her house may be downloaded here.

THE villain in the Samurai Jack animated series is Aku, the self-proclaimed "shapeshifting Master of Darkness". Shapeshifter that he is, no matter how badly he is defeated, a small piece of him always survives to return another day. Big Donkey Kong Papercraft

The first appearance of the Nintendo character, Donkey Kong, was in an eponymous 1981 arcade game. Since that time, Donkey Kong has appeared in numerous Nintendo video games, not to mention the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. Standing at 29.7" (75 cm) tall this Donkey Kong paper model is large! This Pokémon looks suspiciously like a corgi dog! Could it be that after 8 generations they have finally run out of ideas for new Pokémon? Nah. Garbage Pail Kids Paper Toy

In the mid 1980's, Topps produced a series of sticker trading cards called "Garbage Pail Kids". Intended to be a parody of Cabbage Patch dolls, the cartoon art on the cards depicts Cabbage-Patch-like children in disturbing situations. By 1987, the cards had become so popular a live action GPK motion picture was released! To commemorate the Garbage Pail phenom, Paperfoldables offers this paper toy of "Adam Bomb" who graced the wrapper of the trading card packages for many years. STtMP Enterprise Papercraft

This 1:700 scale USS Enterprise paper model depicts how the starship appears in the 1979 movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Rawen, the designer of this papercaft, typically produces miniature models. This is one of his larger creations. The 62 mb ZIP file containing the PDF template and instruction files necessary to build the ship may be downloaded here. There are lots of extras included in the download, including a poseable Captain Spock figure with captain's chair, alternate parts to build NCC-1701-A, and a fleet of shuttles!

Mini Sphinx Papercraft

Several years ago Canon started making mini versions of their architecture papercraft. These models were intended for beginners. One of my favs from their mini collection is this Egyptian Sphinx model. And yes, the pyramid is included! The finished model is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. PDFs of the template and the instructions are available on the Canon website. A free Canon account is required in order to download. This model takes about a hour to build.

Vintage Dutch Village Papercraft

The kids' activities website, Woo! Jr, offers this vintage Dutch village papercraft as a free download. Originally drawn in the 1930's, this diorama depicts farm life in the Netherlands in the 1800's. The 3D elements in the set include two houses, a rowboat, a bridge, and a windmill with blades that actually spin. The 2D elements include townsfolk, animals, a tree, and (of course) tulips. The color-it-yourself papercraft template for the village in the form of eight JPG files may be downloaded here. Papercraft Wolf Head

It is curious why so many papercraft designers have created what amounts to life size paper models of taxidermized animal heads. Now, many of the heads are "low poly" geometric representations, but others, like this wolf head by Paper Juke are quite realistic. I assume Juke used a 3D model from some video game as the basis of this papercraft. The Pepakura PDO template for the head may be downloaded here. The finished model is about 10" (26 cm) wide. Assassin's Creed Papercraft: Al Mualim

In the Assassin's Creed universe, the character Al Mualim is the leader of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins. In the storyline of the video game, Al Mualim becomes obsessed with a powerful golden relic known as the "Apple of Eden" and works with his enemies, the Knights Templar, to obtain it. This paper model depicts Al Mualim with the Apple of Eden in his hand. The finished model stands at 15 3/4" (40 cm) tall. Game of Thrones Papercraft Coins

Papercraft coins are curious thing. Not much to them really. There are three parts: a front, a back, and a thin strip for the edge of the coin. Usually, the reason people build them is for a fan art display. Such is the case for Hellsword Papercraft who has created a collection of papercraft coins from Game of Thrones. There are nine different coins in the collection. I am not a GoT expert, but I think there are nine coins because there is one coin from each of the nine administrative regions of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. 3D Papercraft Cicada Shell

Across the world, there are more than 3000 species of the insect known as the "cicada". Each of the species has a common feature: the nymphs shed their skins to emerge as winged adults. At the right time of the year you can find hundreds of their empty shells clinging to plants and trees. Just the thing for scaring your little sister! ;) This 3D papercraft cicada shell was created by a Japanese papercraft designer in 2008. The template for the model consists of 7 JPG images which may be downloaded here. There is a link on the download page to photo instructions showing how to build the model. The estimated length of the model is 12" (30 cm).

Nintendo Samus Aran Papercraft

Samus Aran is the playable main character of the long-running series of Metroid video games by Nintendo. In 2009, Gollum999 created this Samus paper model for the now defunct Nintendo-Papercraft website. Fortunately, the papercraft template for the model is still available here! The download includes both PDF and Pepakura PDO templates as well as some written instructions. The first appearance of Samus Aran was in the original 1986 Metroid video game.

Easy Mini Star Destroyer Papercraft

Japanese papercraft designer, Masayui, created several free paper models as "gifts" during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020 to help those shut in cope with the situation. One of these models was the simple mini Star Wars Star Destroyer pictured above. The template for the model may be downloaded here. As you can see there are two ships included in the template, one half the size of the other. The model is not any particular scale. Print as large or as small as you like!

Pokecreation has created 3D papercraft dioramas based on 2D cities seen in the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl video game. Currently available in the collection are Snowpoint City, Sendgem Town, Jubilife City and Twinleaf Town. Each city includes a Pokemon Center and a Poke-Mart (of course!). The thing I like about these dioramas is that each element has it's own template. So, it is easy to print out, say one house or a boat, without printing out a lot of other stuff you don't want. Pictured is a sampling of some of the paper models offered by Yamaha in their "Rare Animals of the World" papercraft series. Bismarck Battleship Paper Model

The Bismarck was a German battleship that saw action in World War II. In its last battle in 1941, the ship was scuttled after sustaining heavy damage from British torpedo bombers and warships. This 1:400 scale paper model of the Bismarck was created by Zio Prudenziati. The PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. Only a few instructions are included in the PDF. My favorite part of this model are the tiny boats and seaplane on the deck of the ship!

I thought these Fullmetal Alchemist anime paper toys by Emanuel Franco were pretty cute, especially the Edward toy! The toys pictured in the photo left to right are Roy Mustang, Alphonse Elric, Edward Elric, and Winry Rockbell. The printable templates for these toys may be downloaded here. YZF-R1M Motorcycle Papercraft

This impressive 2015 YZF-R1M Motorcycle model is from Yamaha's "Ultra Realistic" series of 3D papercraft. Being ultra-realistic, this paper model uses a LOT of ink and paper! There are 914 parts to be printed on 54 sheets of cardstock. The completed model is approximately 1:5 scale. The part sheets for the model may be downloaded here.  According to Yamaha, the YZF-R1 series is "the flagship model that represents Yamaha's leading-edge technology and design philosophy".

Marvel Papercraft: Venom

Here's another well done Marvel papercraft from Paper Juke. This model is of Spider-Man's archnemesis, Venom. Standing at 15.5" (39.4 cm) tall when complete, the piece is somewhat large. The printable template for the model (which may be downloaded here) is available in Pepakura PDO format only. To create this papercraft, Paper Juke made use of a 3D model from the Marvel Future Fight video game.

G1 Transformers Papercraft: Devastator

In the Transformers universe, Devastator is an enormous Decepticon formed by combining the Constructicons. The Constructicons are robots that transform from construction equipment such as a bulldozer and a concrete mixer truck. The six Constructicons that make up Devastator are Bonecrusher, Hook, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Scavenger, and Scrapper (who is the leader). The pictured papercraft is modeled after the version of Devastator from the Generation 1 cartoon. The PDF template for the paper model may be downloaded here. Build photo by Chris24jc.

Ornate Equatorial Sundial Paper Model

This fully functional ornate sundial paper model was created by Secanda. Specifically, this is an "equatorial sundial" which the designer explains as:

"...its dial is parallel to the plane of the equator and its axis is parallel to the axis of rotation of the earth. It is therefore a kind of flat model of the terrestrial globe."

Secanda goes on to explain that a equatorial sundial is universal as it will work anywhere on the planet with no other modification than adjustments to the orientation and inclination of the disc. Gypsy Wagon Papercraft

The wagons used by European Gypsies go by many names: caravan, vardo or simply "living wagon". The wagon pictured is a paper model of Madam Eva's caravan from the Neverwinter: Revenloft video game.  This free printable papercraft was released to promote the release of the game in 2016. The PDF template for the wagon is still available and may be downloaded here. As you might guess, Madam Eva is a fortune teller in the game.

Papercraft Treasure Chests With Gold Bricks

I love papercraft treasure chests! Especially when they come with golden treasure inside! These particular chests are just about the right size to be used as props for role playing games or miniature gaming. The larger chest is about 2" tall. The smaller is about 1" tall.
