Lost Pokémon Kotora Paper Toy

Until today, I never realized there were unreleased Pokémon! These are sometimes called "lost Pokémon." One of the most famous of these unrealized designs is an electric tiger called "Kotora." Kotora was originally designed for the 1996 Game Boy game, Pokémon Red and Blue, but was ultimately never used. Kotora sports a lighting bolt on his chest and has a zig-zag tail similar to Pikachu. Pokémon Papercraft: Absol

Absol is one of my favorite Pokémon! According to Pokemon.com:

Swift as the wind, Absol races through fields and mountains. Its curved, bow-like horn is acutely sensitive to the warning signs of natural disasters.

That's a pretty handy skill! This papercraft Absol was created by Ten Pepakura. A printable PDF template for the model may be downloaded from Google Drive. Photo instructions for the model are available on the tenpepakura website. Absol is a dark type Pokémon. His Pokédex number is 359.

Pokémon Papercraft: Litten

Against my better judgement, after 7 years away, I have started playing the Pokémon Go video game again. Of course this inspires me to post more Pokémon papercraft. :) First up is this Litten papercraft by DeviantART member, RavaMaster. Litten is a seventh generation Pokémon that is basically a fire cat. It spits out flaming hairballs. Ha! In the anime, Ash Ketchum catches a Litten and manages, over time, to fully evolve it. The paper model comes in two sizes: 6" (15 cm) and life size. The template for the model is available in two formats: Pepakura PDO (open with Pepakura Viewer) and PDF. Pokemon Papercraft: Yamper

This Pokémon looks suspiciously like a corgi dog! Could it be that after 8 generations they have finally run out of ideas for new Pokémon? Nah. This paper likeness of Yamper the Pokédog was created by Emily Stell at the Paper Duplicator website. PDF and Pepakura PDO papercraft template files may be downloaded here. The finished model stands about 5" (12 cm) tall.

Papercraft Pokemon Cities

Pokecreation has created 3D papercraft dioramas based on 2D cities seen in the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl video game. Currently available in the collection are Snowpoint City, Sendgem Town, Jubilife City and Twinleaf Town. Each city includes a Pokemon Center and a Poke-Mart (of course!). The thing I like about these dioramas is that each element has it's own template. So, it is easy to print out, say one house or a boat, without printing out a lot of other stuff you don't want. The templates for these cities come in both PDF and Pepakura PDO format and may be downloaded here. Sorry, no instructions are available.

Pokeball Origami Gift Box

Here's a neat pokeball origami gift box from Paper Kawaii. The box is created from five 15 x 15 cm squares of paper: 2 white, 2 red and 1 black. Paper Kawaii lists the difficulty of folding this origami creation four out of five stars. The instructions are in video format only. No folding diagrams are available.

Pokeballs are, of course, for catching Pokemon. So, you might want to put one inside the box when you are finished. Paper Kawaii has a Pikachu you can fold. Below are some other possibilities made out of paper for inside the box.  However with these, you might need to build the Pokemon smaller or the box bigger if you want the lid to close!

Life Size Pokemon Papercraft: Eevee

When it comes to 1:1 scale papercraft, there haven't been many Pokemon models created. One exception is this life size Eevee paper model by Sabi96. The color PDF template for this model comes with a companion untextured Pepakura PDO file to use as instructions. All the files are available here. The finished model is 12" (30.5 cm) tall. Eight different Pokemon evolve from Eevee (see paper toys of them here).

Pokemon Papercraft: Totodile

In one episode of the Pokeman anime, Ash and Misty battle in the wild for possession of a Totodile. Ash wins the match and adds the Totodile to his team. Totodiles are playful, crocodile-like Pokemon with extremely strong jaws. This papercraft Totodile was created by Tenpepakura. The PDF template for the model may be downloaded here.

Pokemon Papercraft: Bulbasaur

Who doesn't love the Pokémon known as Bulbasaur? Just too cute!  In 1996, the loveable pocket monster was introduced as one of three starter Pokémon in the first generation of Pokémon video games. In the Pokémon anime, Ash Ketchum's Bulbasaur made his first appearance in 1997. Second only to Pikachu, Bulbasaur has been on Ash's  team longer than any other Pokémon. This papercraft Bulbasaur was created by Ten Pepakura. The PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. In PokéDex dictionary, Bulbasaur is listed as monster #001!

Pokemon Papercraft: Mewtwo

Once upon a time, when there were only 151 to catch, perhaps the rarest (and most powerful) Pokemon was Mewtwo. Part of what made Mewtwo so rare was that it was not a natural Pokemon. It came to exist only because of a genetic experiment performed by a group of scientists. This Mewtwo paper model has the Pokemon in its classic pose, alert and ready to unleash a psychic attack. The papercraft template for the model was created by Darkcrash and may be downloaded here. The download includes both Pepakura PDO and PDF files. The finished model stands is around 19.7" (50 cm) tall.

Pokemon Papercraft: Suicune

Suicune is a Legendary Pokemon that was introduced in the series of Generation II Pokemon video games released for Game Boy Color in 2001. Suicune is featured on the box of Pokemon Crystal Version.  This papercraft Suicune is one of the many excellent Pokemon models available from Tenpepakura. A PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. As you might guess by its blue color, Suicune is a water-type Pokemon.

Pokemon Papercraft: Meowth Balloon

This papercraft Meowth balloon was originally released in 2007. The Pokemon company commissioned papercraft designer Chokipeta to create the model to celebrate the release of the Diamond and Pearl versions of the Nintendo DS Pokemon game. A copy of the PDF template for the balloon is still available here. In the Pokemon anime, a Meowth hot air balloon is the preferred mode of transportation of Team Rocket members Jesse and James.

3D Origami Pikachu

Unlike most Pikachu origami around, this piece is 3D rather than flat. Pikachu is arguably the best loved (and cutest!) pocket monster in the Pokemon franchise. Pokemon Papercraft: Quilava

In the Pokemon anime, Ash Ketchum's Cyndaquil evolves into a Quilava during a fight with Team Rocket. Quilava is a fire-type Pokemon. It has five red spots on its body that are capable of emitting flames. This papercraft Quilava is one of many Pokemon paper models available on the Japanese website, Tenpepakura. PDF and Pepakura PDO templates for this model may be found here. In Japan, Quilava is known as "Magmarashi".

Pokemon Go Papercraft: Pokestop Icon

You knew it had to happen sooner or later: the first Pokemon Go papercraft has been released! This easy-to-build, glue-less paper model of a pokestop icon was created by Desktop Gremlins. Pokestops are real world locations such as monuments, fountains, or public buildings which function (through the magic of GPS) as drop zones for items needed in the game. A pokestop icon indicates the location of pokestops on the in-game map. Now if I could just stop playing long enough to build this! ^^ Download is available here.

Pokemon Papercraft: Eevee Evolutions

"Eeveelution" is the term fans use to describe the eight Pokemon that evolve from Eevee. Eevee and seven of her eight eeveeloutions have been recreated in paper by a Japanese papercrafter. Included in the set are Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, and Glaceon. JPG templates for each of the eeveelutions may be downloaded here. Chibi Team Rocket Paper Toys

These chibi paper toys of Jesse and James of Pokemon's Team Rocket are the work of papercraft creator, Skele-kitty. Skele-kitty used BuddyPoke 3D avatar software to create the toys. My favorite part of these toys is that each comes with seven different facial expressions! The templates for the toys may be downloaded at Skele-kitty's DeviantART page here.

Chibi Papercraft Pikachu Babies

I wasn't quite sure what to call these papercraft cuties I found, but I settled on calling them "babies" because it looks like they are wearing diapers. The cuteness factor is increased by the fact each babe is wearing a Pikachu hoodie - just like my daughter's real life Pikachu hoodie, but with an added tail! The download for this papercraft includes photo instructions and a JPG template with an alternate face and hair.

Pokemon Origami: Pikachu Head

DeviantART member Kabateru-chan did a great job transforming a simple origami bunny into a cute pikachu head by making use of yellow construction paper, black and red markers and whiteout. Folding instructions for the original origami rabbit she used are available here.

Pokemon Papercraft: Boxy Pikachu

Here's a simple one piece Pikachu papercraft by Lee Urn Lun of Malaysia. As everyone knows, Pikachu is one of the main characters in the Pokemon video games and the Pokemon animated television show. This papercraft is a modification by Lun of his paper model bunny template. A download of the Pikuchu template is available here. The model in the photograph above was built by my young daughter. ^^
