Papercraft Tiger

This well detailed papercraft tiger was created by Japanese designer, Katsuyuki Shiga. Shiga's impressive credits include designing well over 100 models for Canon Creative Park. The tiger is offered as a free download on his personal website, Pinoart. The template for the tiger is five pages, with each page being a separate PDF file. To download the template PDFs, go to Pinoart.com and click on the yellow rectangles next to the template images which are about 1/3 of the way down the page. Be aware. Shiga's website is heavy with misleading advertisements. Don't be misled. Only click on the yellow rectangles which contain messages like "Show page 01." I warned you. :) At the bottom of the page, there are nice photo instructions on how to build the tiger.

Lost Pokémon Kotora Paper Toy

Until today, I never realized there were unreleased Pokémon! These are sometimes called "lost Pokémon." One of the most famous of these unrealized designs is an electric tiger called "Kotora." Kotora was originally designed for the 1996 Game Boy game, Pokémon Red and Blue, but was ultimately never used. Kotora sports a lighting bolt on his chest and has a zig-zag tail similar to Pikachu. 3D Tiger Mask Papercraft

This 3D papercraft mask by designer, Zeodtr, was inspired by the Japanese Manga series, Tiger Mask. The storyline of Tiger Mask follows the exploits of a masked professional wrestler as he combats a mysterious organization that exploits young wrestlers. The template for this papercraft is available in Pepakura PDO format only and may be downloaded from Pepakura Gallery. The Tiger Mask manga and anime were popular in Japan in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Pictured is a sampling of some of the paper models offered by Yamaha in their "Rare Animals of the World" papercraft series. The complete list of animals available include a tiger, a California condor, a great Indian rhinoceros, a gorilla, yellow-eyed penguins, an African elephant, and a coelacanth fish. The printable PDF templates for the models may be downloaded here. Each of the templates comes in two versions: a "lines only" version meant to be printed on color cardstock and a color version meant to be printed on white cardstock.

Saber-toothed Tiger Paper Model

Here is another amazing papercraft animal from DeviantART member DrWheelieMobile. This time she has tried her hand at a prehistoric animal: the smilodon. In pop culture, the smilodon is better known as the saber-toothed tiger. The smilodon became extinct a mere 10,000 years ago (not that long ago in the natural history of things). More skeletons of the animal have been found in the La Brea Tar Pits near Los Angeles, California than any other location. The printable template for this paper tiger may be downloaded here.

Calvin and Hobbes Papercraft Diorama

Even though the comic strip ended in 1995, Calvin and Hobbes still holds a fond place in the hearts of many (including myself ^^). This simple papercraft diorama by Dave Delisle depicts the boy Calvin (right) encountering his tiger friend Hobbes (left) after Calvin has been transformed into a tiger by the cardboard box "transmogrifier" in the background.
