Star Trek Voyager Medical Tricorder Papercraft - Version 2

A few years ago I released several Star  Trek paper models based on 3D models from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. One of these papercraft models was a Voyager type medical tricorder and scanner. I was always unhappy with the grossly pixelated textures on the model, but I could never find the time to improve them... until now. The template for the new and improved version of the tricorder may be downloaded here. The new textures aren't perfect, but they are (dare I say it?) light years beyond the old textures. ;)

Gunbound Papercraft Roundup

After a long hiatus, my son again started playing the multi-player online game Gunbound. I remembered seeing some Gunbound papercraft several years ago, so I did some digging around to see if anything was still available. Here are the results of what I found: a Gunbound Dragon, a Raon Launcher, and a Raon Mine. If anyone knows of any others around, let me know and I will add them to the list. Surely there are more than just these three left!

This rancor mask is part of a collection of Star Wars items released in celebration of the new Kinect Star Wars video game released in April. In addition to the mask, there are six paper toys, two posters, and a couple of computer wallpapers. The rancor, you will remember, first made an appearance in Return of the Jedi. For you convenience, all the Star Wars downloads have been collected by Chaunce Dolan on his web page here.

Mage Knight Miniature Wargaming Papercraft

Mage Knight is a fantasy themed miniature wargame that was the first to make use of the "Clix" system used in such games as Marvel HeroClix and Halo ActionClix. Whiz Kids, the creator of the Clix system, at one time offered free paper models for use as props with the Mage Knight game. Those models are no longer available from Whiz Kids, but a German Mage Knight fan site has preserved all of the old official downloads. Pictured above is one example: a gatehouse. Also available are a tower, a medieval house, city walls, and a bridge. The download page for the models is located here. Each of the papercraft architecture models is at 25mm /28mm gaming scale.

ReBoot Papercraft: Medusa Bug

One of my favorite Saturday morning television shows from the 90's is ReBoot. It was the first 30 minute length completely CGI animated TV show. The theme of the show is somewhat Tron-esque in that it takes place inside a computer and the characters are programs. Try as I might, I have never been able to find any ReBoot papercraft, so I took it upon myself to create some. This is a 1:1 scale paper model of the Medusa Bug from Season 1, Episode 4 of ReBoot. The Medusa Bug is a box that when opened turns everything inside a computer to stone (well, almost everything ^^).

The PDF template for the Medusa may be downloaded here. In 2011, the entire ReBoot series was re-released on DVD if you are interested in getting acquainted or re-acquainted with the series. I highly recommend it!

Papercraft Mars Topographic Globe

The landing of NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars this month got me hankering to build a Mars papercraft. Here's my favorite model: a papercraft Mars topographic globe by Eotvos Lorand University Cosmic Materials Space Research Group in Budapest. There's lots to like about this model. First, it is available in a high resolution template that clearly shows the surface features of Mars. Second, there is extensive labeling of the surface features. Finally, the resting places of the first ten landers to make it to the surface of Mars are pinpointed, from the Soviet Mars 2 lander (1971) to NASA's Phoenix lander (2008). The blue tag in the image above is the location of the Spirit rover (2004) (Though not labeled, Curiosity's location is at the far left of the globe just below the equator). The template for the Mars globe was intended to be printed and wrapped around a sphere, but if you have decent papercrafting skills the creation of a hollow papercraft globe should be an easy task. The JPG globe gore template may be downloaded here.

NASA Papercraft: Gemini Space Capsule

NASA's Project Gemini involved 10 missions that took place from 1962 through 1966. Gemini's purpose was to test techniques that afterwards would be used in the Apollo Program. This paper model of a Gemini space capsule was designed by Ton Noteboom. Ton specializes in paper models related to US and Soviet space exploration.
